music that is good

found my old stash of cds been listening to moist and olp omg

its all about lyrics that dont make sense but you sing them out loud and proud anyways:

from moist resurrection = animal the way you cut them might be, animal the way i cut you from below

uhhh okay... wtf are you talking about david? who are you trying to cut from below?? and another one:

olp automatic flowers = a pop-up book of flowers from grade four are driving her insane

wtf does that even mean?! that is so messed

regardless the music is still awesome lol and i will continue to blast it in my car to confuse and befuddle passengers!

today at work we had a really awkward meeting where the organizer kept asking questions and no one answered her, it was amazing. she asked very behavioural type questions that a shrink would ask, like asking 'why' really quickly even after you give an answer as to probe further, or saying things like 'im sensing blah blah blah'.. a bit uncomfortable but totally unintentionally hilarious, what a complete waste of time especially when we're so busy at work.

MY LIFE IS COMPLETE

okay glendon was there too but hes taking the picture. we saw shane and shane (see link on left) last friday, they were playing with some guys called starfield or something, who knows. they said i was old school when i had them autograph salvation still remains and rocks wont cry, and shane e signed as 'caleb' on ssr bahahaah. even though they opened for starfield (what a travesty) they were about twenty times better than them, like a totally different level of musicianship.

and then we met shane b's wife, bethany dillon who is friggn awesome too. glendon took a picture of her ring rofl

stuff christians like. just about the greatest blog ever.

Monday, April 28, 2008

open thoughts:

1. here's an interesting idea: to get what you want in life you need to be a jerk. if you're too nice, you inevitably end up getting screwed by people who have no problems being jerkish. if you want something, you better be prepared to be unaccommodating, selfish, and narrow-minded - that's the best way to accomplish your goal. if you're too kind, flexible, and unaggressive, you'll end up with the short end of the stick.

2. sometimes christians fail to use simple logic, it continues to amaze me how utterly stupid some ideas are. use some bloody common sense. if it doesnt make sense in any other aspect of life, why would it make sense simply because its a ministry setting? along those same lines, dont use ministry as an excuse to treat people poorly.

3. we need more business principles in the church, or at least people who know what they're talking about. im not saying that if you're not in business you're an idiot, but there's so many things you learn in a business/commerce undergrad that would be so useful in a church setting. how to undergo change transformation, for example, and using appropriate change agents.

4. no more open mics at church. better to dictate what is being said than to have a lunatic up there ranting about this and that.

5. practice what you preach.

get behind me, santa!

I don't care about family and shopping malls
Candy canes or the carolers decking the halls
I don't care about what you say, Santa Claus
You're a bad brother breaking into people's garage
Jeez!

what a day. its funny how God takes what you see as weakness and turns it into strength, i so very much respect those who take sin seriously and treat it for what it is.

how he loves

He is jealous for me
Loves like a hurricane
I am a tree
Bending beneath
The weight of his wind and mercy
When all of a sudden
I am unaware of these

Afflictions eclipsed by glory
And I realize how beautiful you are
And how great your affections are for me

Oh how he loves us so
Oh how he loves us
How he loves us so
Yeah he loves us
Oh how He loves us

We are his portion
And he is our prize
Drawn to redemption by the grace in his eyes
If grace is an ocean we’re all sinking
So heaven meets earth like a sloppy wet kiss
And my heart burns violently inside of my chest

I don’t have time to maintain these regrets
When I think about the way
He loves us
Oh how he loves us
Oh how he loves us

Oh how he loves us

September 19. 10 years ago today, Rich Mullins passed away in an automobile accident. In my mind, the greatest Christian songwriter, period. Not much I can say about him, I'd rather let him speak.

It's just that for so many people that I know, Christianity's this matter of ... it has everything to do with morals. Christianity is a religion about morals. And they will even talk about Jesus. And they will say kids need to know about Jesus so they won't smoke, drink, or dance, or go with girls that do, and all that kind of thing. And I kinda go, 'That's not why people need to know about Jesus. The only reason—the only possible excuse for talking about Jesus is because we need a Savior.'

I think if we were given the Scriptures, it was not so that we could prove that we were right about everything. If we were given the Scriptures, it was to humble us into realizing that God is right, and the rest of us are just guessing.

Christianity is not about building an absolutely secure little niche in the world where you can live with your perfect little wife and your perfect little children in your beautiful little house where you have no gays or minority groups anywhere near you. Christianity is about learning to love like Jesus loved and Jesus loved the poor and Jesus loved the broken.

Bear in mind, children, that they listen to you because you are kids—not because you are right. That's how our Father listens to us.

If you've ever known the love of God, you know it's nothing but reckless and it's nothing but raging. Sometimes it hurts to be loved, and if it doesn't hurt it's probably not love, may be infatuation. I think a lot of American people are infatuated with God, but we don't really love Him, and they don't really let Him love them. Being loved by God is one of the most painful things in the world, it's also the only thing that can bring us salvation and it's like everything else that is really wonderful, there's a little bit of pain in it, little bit of hurt.

John Rivers, on meeting Rich Mullins: Who can forget, maybe at that same big convention, at that gigantic dinner we used to have after the Dove Awards. They had every unimaginable food and everyone was dressed to the nines and Rich Mullins was there and he felt so uncomfortable in that rich setting so to speak. I'm going along the dessert line and I see, I think, a guy who is Rich Mullins, who has relieved one of the servers and has now donned their white jacket and their little white chefs hat or whatever it was and is serving desserts to all these people after the Dove awards. I think most of them didn't even know it was him. But that was Rich Mullins. He'd rather be behind the counter serving than out with the folks in their fancy duds. Rich Mullins was the real thing. Rich Mullins loved Jesus.
