you notice when you're running late you become so much more sensitive to everything that's going on around you, and it almost seems like every force in the universe is against you? i was running a bit late on my way to work this morning and it seemed like every car was going just under the limit, unable to make any lane changes, getting caught at every traffic light... i think i hit 3 yellow lights, and you know how quick my drive to work is already. everything becomes amplified and it just seems like every little thing is set at making you even later.

i'm pretty sure God doesn't do that on purpose, maybe some things in life just happen and there's no real rhyme or reason beyond that specific to your life. and maybe that's okay, cuz sometimes the universe doesn't revolve around you or me, maybe we're just a part of it all, a part of something way bigger than any of us individually.

waiting?

good sg last night had a discussion about jesus walking on water and a question that was asked was were the disciples in God's will when they were out in the boat? very interesting as all texts have jesus commanding the disciples to go into the boat immediately and cross over to the other side, but when evening comes they're not even there yet, they're just waiting or stalling or something. it also says jesus 'had not come to them yet' implying that maybe they were waiting for him before going.

how often do we do that, receive a very clear command from God but we stall and come up with excuses to wait when its actually very clear what he said. scratch that, how often do I do that.. i think there's some very clear commands that we've been given but sometimes we still sit on the shore waiting for Christ to come and give us a little push or to tell us more clearer.. he's already made it perfectly clear what he wants us to do, sometimes its better to just obey rather than stall and delay and make up excuses that we're just waiting to hear from God to make himself obvious.

the third floor at work was so nasty today, i dont think the A/C was working so it smelled so bad and everyone was sweating.. it was like a sauna so gross.. what an awesome day outside though the weather has been cooperating (today anyways) after saturday's windstorm but so far so good this week!

nice talk with tim/jo about church last night, really good to see it from their perspective. i guess that's one good thing about a smaller church, you can actually sit down and talk to the leaders to see where they're coming from, it would be a lot harder at a bigger church. the two questions that still remain are where is our church at and where are we going, and to take it a bit more personal, where am i at and where am i going. a large part of that is alignment and fit (between the individual and the church), but perhaps theres something more innate and core at the bottom of it.

holy cow what a gorgeous day out! todays rant is about the folks over at weathernetwork. they keep postponing the nice weather all week long, one dreary day after another.. and finally when friday hits its absolutely gorgeous outside and they're calling for rain and thundershowers. way to ruin everyone's weekends, jerks!

on an unrelated note, what do you guys listen to at work (if you listen to music)? i'm going through a broadway phase now, its awesome. reminds me of that time we were singing wicked on our way up to see shanex2 in gdon's car loll

jays game

what a fun game last night, went down with some t2 people after work and after like a pitcher each at eastsides lol we were all very 'happy'.. made the game much more fun and i still cant believe jubsy got on the jumbotron with her homemade cowboy blue jays hat. we also pulled in two balls (one foul popup, one from aaron hill) and had a good time heckling BJ while yelling out 'we want barabas' and 'give us barabas' whenever rod barajas went up to bat rofl. ak kept yelling for batters to bunt but no one would do it but snider (stupid rolen!) in the end the jays gutted out a win in extra innings and the only thing missing from this nite would have been street meat boooo..

rich young ruler

i think i've finally come to an understanding of this passage - Christ doesn't care about this man's wealth, it's about his heart. Giving to the poor isn't the message here, it's more about whether or not we're following Jesus with our whole hearts, 100%, undivided.

came to mind yesterday during sg when we were studying the parable of the treasure hidden in the field - same concept i think.

of course, this may just be a cop-out answer..

Goldenrod and the 4H stone
The things I brought you
When I found out you had cancer of the bone

Your father cried on the telephone
And he drove his car into the Navy yard
Just to prove that he was sorry

In the morning, through the window shade
When the light pressed up against your shoulderblade
I could see what you were reading

All the glory that the Lord has made
And the complications you could do without
When I kissed you on the mouth

Tuesday night at the Bible study
We lift our hands and pray over your body
But nothing ever happens

I remember at Michael's house
In the living room when you kissed my neck
And I almost touched your blouse

In the morning at the top of the stairs
When your father found out what we did that night
And you told me you were scared

All the glory when you ran outside
With your shirt tucked in and your shoes untied
And you told me not to follow you

Sunday night when I cleaned the house
I found the card where you wrote it out
With the pictures of you mother

On the floor at the great divide
With my shirt tucked in and my shoes untied
I am crying in the bathroom

In the morning when you finally go
And the nurse runs in with her head hung low
And the cardinal hits the window

In the morning in the winter shade
On the first of March, on the holiday
I thought I saw you breathing

All the glory that the Lord has made
And the complications when I see His face
In the morning in the window

All the glory when He took our place
But He took my shoulders and He shook my face
And He takes and He takes and He takes

what if ET is doing church wrong?

what if it's all wrong? what if this isn't what God has intended for our church? are we really listening to what God wants for us? What if in the end it turns out this wasn't what He had in mind at all?
